There are no third-party applications that can do the job of replacing the default user account avatar by your desired image. Therefore, you will have to do it manually, but first, you must resize the images. Go to Google, and search for any image that you want to replace with the default user account avatar image, download, and save it on your PC.

Step 1) The first step you must take is to open up the Windows File Explorer and go to the location C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\User Account Pictures.

Moreover, you can simply copy-paste the location in the Windows address bar and press Enter. The directory will open up to the folder where the images of the default avatar are kept.

Step 2) Here, you will notice the default avatar images in different sizes. All you have to do now is to change the image extension from.PNG to.OLD. To change the extension, right-click on the images, select Properties, on the property window, clear the file extension and type.OLD, close the property window. The images which you must change the extension to.OLD is given below.

  • user.png
  • user-32.png
  • user-40.png
  • user-48.png
  • user-192.png

Step 3) Now, select your desired image that you want to replace with the default avatar image make six copies of them. After that, rename these images as follows.

Step 4) Once you are done resizing and renaming the images, copy-paste all the images to the C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\User Account Pictures path.

Open the images with a photo editor tool and resize the user-32.png image to 32x32px, resize the user-40.png image into 40x40px, resize the user-48.png image into 48x48px and lastly resize the user-192.png into 192x193px.
