For example, you might need a printed copy of text messages for legal or medical reasons. Whether you have a wireless printer that connects to your Wi-Fi network, or an older printer attached by a cable, you can print out texts. You can’t print a text directly from the Messages app, but with this helpful workaround, you’ll learn how to print text messages on Android.

Note: Each version of Android looks and acts differently. We’re showing the steps on a OnePlus phone running Android 11. So, keep in mind the steps will vary, but the idea is the same. To print texts on Android, use the following steps:

Open your Messages app and take a screenshot of the text message you need.Open the Gallery, find the screenshot you took (annotate if required), and tap the Share button.When the Share screen opens, tap the Print icon.Tap the dropdown menu and choose your printer. If you haven’t set it up yet, tap All printers and continue with the following steps.Android will start looking for an available printer. If it doesn’t find the printer, you’ll need to get the Android app for your printer brand — tap Add Printer.When it discovers your printer, tap your printer’s brand; in our example, it’s Canon.The Google Play Store will open so you can install the appropriate software for your printer – tap Install.You’ll be brought back to the print page, where you need to print the text screenshot. Select your printer from the available options.After selecting your printer, tap the Print button in the top-right corner.If your printer pops up a notification, tap the OK button.

The screenshot of your text messages will print out on your printer, and you can use the hardcopy for what you need them for.

If you don’t have a Wi-Fi printer but you do have one connected to your computer, you can use it to print text messages on Android. To print texts on a wired printer, do the following:

Take a screenshot of the texts you want to print out.Open the Gallery, find and tap the screenshot you just took, and tap the Share button.When the Share list appears, select Gmail or another email client you prefer.Email the screenshot of your text messages. Open it on the computer with your attached printer and print them out. For example, we’re printing the text messages from the Photos app on Windows 10.
